Artist Statement--Koral Martin
As a hobby gardener and photographer, I have always been in awe of the beauty of flowers. When I actually took the time to look closely at a flower, I would see a beauty that is so often missed. The colorful pollen dust, the graceful pistons, the rich colors and textures that lay deep within, all remain hidden to the casual observer. Capturing this hidden beauty has since become a passion of mine. Thru months of experimentation, I have discovered thru a special process a way to capture the essence of flowers at a level I never thought possible.
Now, as every season comes around, I am out discovering those hidden gems in
flowers that I never knew existed. From the pink dogwood tree blooms to the
glorious hibiscus, from the rainbow colors offered by daylilies to the little
white and pink delicate flowers that bloom in the lawn, each has its own richness
of color and variety of detail. As I bring these unique images to my computer,
I zoom in on the flowers and am continually amazed at the minute detail and
depth of color. I am seeing flowers as I have never seen them before. Even
accidentally capturing a very small ant crawling across the flower is a joy.
As I zoom in and see in great detail every leg and body part on something I
didn’t even know was there, I am amazed.
To be able to bring this to print in all its glory has been an exciting and
fascinating journey. Hours are spent on each image in hopes of capturing
the true essence and grace of each flower. From this I am able to make
an everlasting
memory of nature whose beauty passes all to quickly and is so seldom seen
or appreciated due to the harried nature of our lives.
